The Dept. of Chemical Technology organized a webinar entitled “WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM DYES & PIGMENTS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN 21ST CENTURY?” on an online platform dated 30/08/2021 at 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The webinar started with the welcome speech by Dr Omprakash Mahadwad, Head of Department & Dean Engg. UPL University of Sustainable Technology. Followed by Dr Nilesh Badgujar, Webinar Coordinator & Associate Professor, Dept. of Chemical Technology gives the departmental presentation and introduction to eminent speaker Dr Pankaj Desai, Head R&D, Colourtex Ind. Ltd. Surat. Dr Pankaj Desai starts his expert talk from the journey of colourtex industry, customer expectations, corporate accountability like resource efficiency, water minimization, cleaner production etc. Then elaborate about, what is expected of a dye? (In a 21st century) it includes quality consistency, state of art application properties, maximum flexibility, economy, Ecology & Toxicology, criteria for Eco-labels, typical Eco-parameters for the finished textiles, manufacturing restricted substances, development in conventional textile colouration technology. Also discussed new development in textile colouration technology basics of SCF dyeing technology and new generation dye house etc.

In the second talk, the eminent speaker Mr Kashyap Desai, Deputy R&D Manager, Heubach colours Pvt. Ltd. Ankleshwar & Dahej. He starts his presentation with primary applications of dyes & pigments, key differences between dyes & pigments, Types of pigments & their importance, colour range, application range includes inks, paints & coatings, plastics, textiles and speciality applications, Manufacturing ease, effluents & norms, Industrial Scenario & global market, Global pigments market future outlook and projections etc.

Then he focuses on B.E. Dyes & Technology course demand in the industry includes the requirement of technical skills, tech. course preference, multi-tasking person etc. Then discuss how effective the B.E. dyes & pigment technology course for the industry. Also quotes the Technology is the bridge between chemistry and Engineering. So more demand of these course in dyes & pigments industries. The overall talks were well appreciated by the students.
